    A patient is anxious. The interpreter line is on a 12-minute hold. You can't ask if they're in pain, if they're hungry, if their family is on the way. So you smile, gesture, and pull up a phrasebook app — and you both know it's not enough.

    The interpreter line is built for the consequential conversations — consents, diagnoses, the moments where every word matters and the legal record matters more. It's not built for the small stuff: the comfort questions, the daily check-ins, the "you're going to be okay" said in the moment, in the language the patient actually speaks.
